A young African man saw the misery around him, and he grew angry. He asked his minister why people had to suffer.
He cried, "Why doesn't God do something?"
"He has," his pastor said. "He created you."
That's how Desmond Tutu, later archbishop of South Africa, became the answer to his own question. He also became the first black African to lead South Africa's Anglican Church—and he helped end his country's apartheid.
Like it did for Archbishop Tutu, a call comes to a person where he is—in the things that stir his passions. What problems face you and others? How can you be an answer? It's the high calling of our daily work.
Then I said, "Here I am, I have come—
it is written about me in the scroll.
I desire to do your will, O my God;
your law is within my heart." (Psalm 40:7-8)
