"I remember being held up at one of the gates of Paris about that time with some fifty other drivers. It turned out that the Pope was to pass this way. We all got out of our cars, and he finally appeared from a tunnel; the inside light of his car was on and we caught a glimpse of him in his great red cloak. He gave us a friendly wave, there were cheers and everyone quietly got back behind the steering wheel. It was the first time that I had seen Parisian motorists caught in a fifteen-minute traffic jam without losing their tempers. If there is any question of beatifying John Paul II in days to come, I hope that this miracle will be put on the file."
